Ada's Adventure is part of Tynker’s digital literacy coursework for Upper Elementary Grade. I worked on a dozens of educational videos on the key concepts that every children needs to know, including computers, networks, security, and digital literacy. This whole project took a good 7-8 month in the Post-Production Stage where I teamed up to create a high-quality 2D animated series where one can learn to code, you’ll help Professor Ada defeat Dr. Glitch with math and problem-solving skills across had 45 episodes spanning video content where I contributed in illustrating few characters, creating Backgrounds and animating it. I used tools like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for Character Turnarounds and Background Environment setup, After Effects for the Motion Graphics in between the modular sections and Spline 2D and Adobe Animate for the Character Animation and the Full-Screen Animation throughout.
Character Style
I initiated this undertaking by jotting down my initial concepts, but drawing from the lessons of my prior endeavor, I recognized the necessity of crafting a clear, preliminary outline for each scene. This outline would encompass the color palette we might employ for our final assets and the seamless integration of characters within the foregrounds and transitions, ensuring a smooth progression through the design and animation stages. Consequently, I devoted a considerable amount of time to this phase, grappling with the lack of a concrete vision and a comprehensive understanding of the overall flow. To overcome this obstacle, I assembled a collection of rudimentary line art for characters, same for the Background Scenes. This approach enabled me to better visualize the optimal representation of the concept and facilitated a more cohesive flow throughout the entire composition.
Concept Art
After finalising the episode's narrative and script, the concept stage proved to be both straightforward and enjoyable. Just like every time I was looking forward to get an opportunity to enhance my background concept abilities by creating visually appealing frames that would captivate a young audience. I incorporated a variety of engaging props and elements in the background to complement the laboratory, space ships, cities, manors etc featured in the scenes. This concept approach was consistently applied across all the videos in the series, with the FSA segments bookending each episode and modular content placed in between. To provide viewers with a glimpse of what the entire series has to offer, I have included a few of images from the series below.
Backgrounds
The most time-consuming decision in the process was determining the optimal number of backgrounds that would effectively represent the various settings, such as the Interior and Exterior Image of Troll House, Ada's Laboratory on Earth, Techtopia City, and Glitch Manor are just few examples of many along the series. To ensure that the visuals would resonate with the target audience, I got some idea from the creative brief and also drew inspiration from popular cartoons that children typically enjoy watching. I put in the best efforts to match the quality of these cartoons while meticulously drawing and finalizing each asset, paying close attention to every detail to create captivating and immersive environments that would enhance the overall viewing experience.
StyleFrame
Utilising the various Space Adventure cartoon graphics out there as our foundation, I have crafted a dynamic Laboratory themed style Backgrounds and other assets or props that could be available at such place so that not only amplifies the essence of the similarities but also captivates the kids visually. This innovative approach was maintains through this video series depending upon the content and lessons covered. I made sure to maintain the authentic vibe while delivering an aesthetically pleasing outcome.
Overview
The video production process was consistent across all episodes, and each episode featured full-screen animations lasting between 90 and 120 seconds. These animations were spread throughout the entire series, which consisted of 45 episodes. I played a significant role in the production process, contributing to various aspects of the project. My responsibilities included illustrating and matte painting several backgrounds, designing different graphics for most of the episodes, and animating a large portion of the series. Additionally, I took on a leadership role by providing animation direction for a few episodes. To create a cohesive and engaging introduction, a customized intro sequence was created for each video. This intro sequence was crafted by selecting small action snippets from all the episodes in the series, showcasing the breadth and variety of the content that kids could love to see.
